The River Bar - Steakhouse & Grill

Steak and Wine Master-Class

On Wednesday 29th February, The River Bar Steakhouse will host a Steak and Wine master-class. The evening will give guests a gastronomic crash course from the establishment's expert suppliers before they enjoy a sumptuous three course meal using the restaurant's best produce.

This will be the third tasting evening held at the restaurant, and they have already proved immensely popular with guests and locals and recommended by the regional press including Cambridgeshire Agenda, Explorer Magazine, Cambridge Editions and CB Magazine.

Guests will learn all there is to know about this irresistible pairing - where different cuts of steak come from on the cow, how the meat is sourced, how the land on which a cow grazes affects the taste and how different cuts of meat work with different types of wine.

The evening will explain the background to the meat, and how the majority of the produce comes from Norfolk and Suffolk. Bancroft Wines will pair these with a selection of vintages from their superb French and Italian ranges as well as choices from their growing New World offering. Different cuts of steak will be tasted with different wines to show how important the pairing is with varying textures and flavours of the cuts suiting certain wines over others. It is not often you get to taste these different steaks in one sitting and pairing them with the great wines on offer is a real experience. The night is very interactive with tasting and talking by the experts going on at once so it makes for an interesting evening.

After the talking and tasting, guests will enjoy a delicious three course meal prepared by the head chef at The River Bar Steakhouse. Each guest will choose their favourite cut - whether it be a delicate and tender fillet, a succulent sirloin, rich rib-eye or juicy rump - enjoying them perfectly cooked to their taste and can pair it with Bancroft Wines' select recommendations or indeed the wine that they think most fits with the cut.

With views across the River Cam and with chefs skilled in the preparation of the country's finest steaks, The River Bar Steakhouse - as its name suggests - is the perfect place to learn about, and dine on, this most classic of dishes.

Places at the tasting master-class are available to book at £40 per person, which includes a three course meal and wine. Places can be booked by emailing res@riverbarsteakhouse.com or calling 01223 30 70 30. The event starts from 6.30pm with a welcome drink followed by tasting at 7pm.
